Melanie van der Ploeg studied Medical Psychology at Tilburg University. During her studies she focused on patients with cardiovascular disease in both a clinical and a research setting. She currently works as a PhD candidate at the Health, Medical and Neuropsychology Unit of Leiden University.
Using experimental manipulations of psychological stress (for example classical conditioning) she studies the effects on implicit and explicit measures of affect and cardiovascular indices of health. In 2014 she will be doing part of her research at Ohio State University, Columbus (OH) as Visiting Scholar.
